Summer and music festivals have been synonymous since hippies began taking over unused fields in the ‘60s. But winter has largely remained festival free – at least in dance music – baring one or two stalwarts. The combination of a season spent and cold weather has normally reserved the winter months for clubbing only.
That is until recently, when a new batch of festivals, many of which cropped up only in the last year or two, began changing the game in the UK and EU. Here, we run down 10 of the best.
European cousin to DEMF, Movement Torino returns to Italy for the 9th year in 2014. Bringing the same techno sensibilities to an old Fiat factory, this year the festival runs right through Halloween, with Maceo Plex playing the opening party, Kerri Chandler handling closing duties, and Better Lost Than Stupid, Joseph Capriati, Chris Liebing and Timo Mass amongst those playing throughout.
Details: October 24-November 1. TBA, Torino, IT.
Don’t miss: If you’ve ever seen the Italian contingent come out for Capriati at Music On, imagine what his home country must be like.
